Thursday, March 14, 2013:  Sony is eager to erase the memory of 2012 and its lack of Android update roll out for its Xperia devices. 2013 has begun with better fortunes for the Japan-based smartphone brand, that is intent on becoming the third biggest smartphone brand in the world over the next couple of years.

The signs have been positive with Sony launching its latest Xperia Z, Xperia ZL smartphones and Xperia Z tablet, which probably is the slimmest available slate in the world. And the company is now adamant on offering Android updates for its Xperia devices that were introduced last year.

One of those, Xperia J has already received its Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean update, making it the only phone from an international brand to get an update in the mid-level price range.

Next up, reports suggest that Sony will roll out Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean update for its Xperia S smartphone, which was recognised a flagship model for sometime in 2012. The news about update has come via tweet by Sony Mobile Germany.

Sony Xperia S was launched in early 2012 and the phone comes with a 10.9-cm (4.3-inch) display and runs Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. The phone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM. It comes fitted with a 12 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front-facing shooter for video calling. The phone has 32 GB internal storage capacity.

The update could be available by next month but Indian roll out is not known as of now.
