Hope City Technology Metropolis to Host Africa’s Tallest Building
Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has officially launched a project dubbed Hope City, the project will cost $10bn (£6.6bn) and will create 50,000 jobs, the project which is expected to be completed within three years will have Africa’s tallest building, 75 storey building at a height of 270m (885ft) and will consist of six futuristic towers designed by architects OBR as well as a 100,000 metre square ICT and business hub.

It will also have two 60-storey towers and another 42-storey tower. It will have ICT training centre, a computer hardware assembly plant, shops, banks, medical and educational facilities, pleasure and will be located at Kasoa, a suburb of Accra
RLG is spearheading development of the project, known as Home, Office, People and Environment (HOPE), in conjunction with the government of Ghana
It will be recalled that back in January, Kenya unveiled plans to build an “Africa’s Silicon Savannah” Konza Technology City within a period of 20 years at the cost of $14.5bn. A project that is expected to create over 200,000 jobs by 2030
The private sector would spearhead the building of Hope City, Mr Mahama added.“Both projects will contribute greatly to making Ghana an ICT hub for the sub-region,” the President said. “As you are all aware knowledge is driving the world; technology parks, cyber city, e-government and Silicon Valleys are pushing the boundaries of the impossible. Wealth and economic growth is no longer dependent on how much gold, timber or oil you have,” he added.

“Government has led growth since independence with all the major investments… The time has come for the private sector to take over,” he said at the project’s launch.”We can see that already in several sectors, including ICT [information, communications and technology] and telecom.”
In attendance at the event were a number of high profile dignitaries, including the Senior Vice President of Microsoft Corporation, Ali Famamwy.
