Microsoft Offers Windows 8 Pro and Parallels Desktop For Free

In January, Microsoft launchedmodern.IE to enable developers on both Microsoft OS and Windows platforms to make the most of Internet Explorer 10 when developing projects. Today, Microsoft has announced new tools and resources to help developers test sites on not only IE 10 (as well as 9) but older versions of browsers.
To really ensure developers are making the most of modern.IE,Microsoft is now offering both Windows 8 Pro and Parallels Desktop 8 for free, as long as developers make a $25 donation to a select charity. (This “QuickStart Kit” will be delivered via a USB stick). Additionally, Microsoft is also offering new features with modern.IE included the ability to download new virtual machines for IE10 on Windows 7 and IE8 on Windows XP, as well as the ability to scan a web page URL to identity interoperability issues – even for sites located behind a firewall.
Microsoft notes that there is a “limited supply” of the QuickStart USB sticks that provide the free Windows 8 Pro and Parallels Desktop 8. As company is aware that “costs to purchase software and licensing can be difficult if you’re that startup looking for your first big breakthrough,”  these kits will likely go fast. UPDATE: And they did go fast. Microsoft just tweeted that that the kits sold out around 10:30am PST, noting “we’ll look at making other offers available in the near future.”
If you’re a developer looking to get your hands on Windows 8 Pro and Parallels Desktop, visit modern.IE for more info and to sign up.
