Facebook invades Android's Home

Facebook Home has been revealed and founder Mark Zuckerberg described it as a family of apps that becomes the new home screen and lock screen of your phone. It brings the social network to the forefront of your mobile OS and pushes the typical app experience to the background.
So far, we've seen that the family consists of four components.
Coverfeed acts as your wallpaper, background, and homescreen. It shows status updates, photos, and link shares all in a visual, slideshow-like presentation.

Notifications are ubiquitous and now pop up with people's Facebook profile pictures next to them. Presumably, you'll be able to jump straight to a contact's profile from the notification, but we will have to confirm so. Also, you can swipe notifications off of your screen, which Android users should already be used to.
App Launcher lets you launch apps from the lock screen with simple swipe gestures.
And Chatheads, which combines both Facebook messages and SMS, lets you engage in conversations from anywhere in Android, even if you are in the middle of a game or using another app. Whenever you receive a message, a small photo of the person will pop up at the top of your screen with a preview of the message. You'll thne be able to open up the chat and close it at will, all without leaving the app that you're currently in. The Chat head will stay at the top of the screen (or anyone else you care to move it) until you throw it away by swiping it all the way down.

Facebook Home will be available on April 12 through Google Play just like any other application. The difference, however, is that Android will ask for an additional confirmation before installing.
