Google has announced that leaked 'card based' designs for Google Play Store 4.0 are real and the update will soon be available for all customers to download. The search giant has confirmed that the images of an apparent Google PlayStore redesign that found their way online last weekend are genuine and the most recent version of the Play Store is already available to download for some users.
The latest redesign sees Google switching to a card-based UI making it a better fit with other Android features and services, including Google Now and Google Search. The new design is minimalist in layout with a big focus on images and as little text as possible to make the UI seem more spacious and organised, catering to modern trends.
Outside of the new sleek design, Google has added new features in the new update including grouping similarly themed content together, making it easier for users to find what you are looking for. The official Android blog has also reported that the checkout experience has been streamlined making the purchasing or renting procedure as simple as possible.
Besides a new design overhaul and making the whole interface simpler to use, Google removed 60,000 apps from the store in February that they believed weren't up to standard. Clearly Google is not only working to make it easy to find content through its new card UI, it is also working to remove dead weight ensuring the best apps are not overshadowed.
The update will be available to any tablet or phone running Android 2.2 or newer. The update has already been launched but due to strain on servers it may not be available to all customers until next week.
